Beware of Sore Breasts After Hormone Therapy
Women, who undergo hormone therapy and end up with symptoms like their breasts getting sore, are twice more likely to develop breast cancer and are at a higher risk of developing the cancer. Women who underwent hormone therapy and whose breasts did not become tender had reduced risk of cancer.
Scientists now believe that in women breast tenderness can be used to identify if they had a risk of developing cancer or not. An increase in breast tenderness can be easily detected by physicians.
One team analyzed data from nearly 16 thousand women, who were taking medications like estrogen and progestin, and found that these women were more likely to develop breast cancer. Doctors now believe that hormone replacement therapy is far better for women who are suffering from severe menopause side effects and also suggest that at the same time they should take the lowest possible dosage for a short period of time.
Women who took hormone treatment and had tender breasts had tripled the risk of developing breast cancer.
The question that comes to mind is whether women who are taking hormone therapy should continue the treatment or not. Also, did hormone therapy play a role in increasing the tenderness of the breast? These findings are not yet conclusive in any way and also it has not been found how hormone therapy actually promotes breast cancer. In addition, there is another unanswered question which is why breast tenderness causes cancer. There are several questions that need to be answered and whether breast tenderness is a symptom or the cause.

Fight Depression With Hormone Replacement Therapy
Our body is like a well-constructed machine, with every part having a multitude of functions. The human body acts properly because of some important hormones that our endocrine system produces. However, as we begin to age, these hormones become insufficient, thus creating an imbalance and leading our body not to function properly. Hormone deficiencies or hormonal imbalance is one of the major problems both men and women experience as they enter midlife. With extensive research, scientists have come up to a solution for hormonal imbalance called Hormone Replacement Therapy. An almost similar treatment is the Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy, which uses hormones that are entirely identical in chemical structure to those found in the human body.
Men and women with hormonal imbalance may experience symptoms like increased wrinkles, fatigue, low libido and mental depression. Luckily, these can all be solved through Hormone Replacement Therapy. In this article, relief for depression caused by hormonal imbalance will be discussed further.
To combat depression, the first thing to do is to understand what causes depression. This happens to anyone, regardless of age and sex. Depression is characterized by sudden mood change for a long period of time. This is commonly associated with loss of interest in activities that one normally enjoys, eating and sleep disorders, and detachment family and friends. It was found out that women tend to feel depressed twice more than men.
Depression is mainly attributed to hormonal imbalance. During depression, serotonin, a chemical that is responsible for a person’s mood, tends to drop. Low level of serotonin makes a person feel sad. On the other hand, high level of this chemical makes a person feel happy. The change in serotonin level is determined by estrogen hormones. Thus when estrogen level tends to decline, so does the production of serotonin. This hormonal imbalance is the reason behind depression. Managing depression means handling hormonal imbalance. This further means that Hormone Replacement Therapy can help people get out of their depression.
Doctors use synthetic hormones in Hormone Replacement Therapy. Synthetic hormones are created in laboratories rather than by the body. However, synthetic hormones used in Hormone Replacement Therapy act like natural hormones once inside the body. To treat depression, estrogen is restored by using synthetic estrogen. The synthetic estrogen will act like a natural one. The aim of Hormone Replacement Therapy is to replenish the level of estrogen in the body so that the level of serotonin will also increase. Once this is achieved, depression will not be an issue. As long as the level of estrogen is high, the person will not feel symptoms of depression.

Contraindications of Hormone Replacement Therapy
Modern-day natural hormone replacement therapy is very flexible and safe and only a minority of menopausal women is told by their doctors that they should avoid it. However, if you suffer from, or have a history of cancer and severe liver disease, you will probably be advised never to take estrogen.
Your physician will discourage you to take hormone replacement if you have an estrogen-sensitive cancer, such as breast or endometrial cancer. They are generally reluctant to give estrogen to menopausal women who have previously been treated for uterine cancer, because it is possible may stimulate the distant spread of the cancer. However, if the cancer was detected in the early stages and was determined to be of a less aggressive type and if the patient has remained cancer-free for many years, some doctors feel that is safe o prescribe estrogen in small doses if a menopausal patient complains of severe symptoms of estrogen deficiency. Some menopausal women who have been successfully treated for breast cancer find that they are unable tot tolerate a complete lack of sex hormones in their bodies and hormone replacement therapy regimen using small doses of estrogen and larger doses of progesterone can often be worked out for them. They may opt to take this type of therapy after weighing all the pros and cons with a cancer specialist. If the cancer has been completely removed and there is no sign of invasion into the blood vessels and the lymph glands in the armpits are free of cancer, there is approximately a 75 percent chance of a complete cure. Taking hormone replacement does not dramatically affect this figure. A post menopausal cancer patient may live another 20 to 30 years after successful treatment for breast cancer and she may not want to run the increased risk of bone fracture or heart attack that may ultimately occur in the absence of estrogen in her body.
Severe liver disease, such as cirrhosis may also be a contraindication for hormone replacement therapy. Severe liver disease makes it difficult for your liver to break down or metabolize estrogen. Normal doses of estrogen replacement usually overtax a diseased liver so that liver function may worsen. Mild to moderate liver disease is not necessarily a contraindication to estrogen replacement, although in such a case it is wise you use only estrogen patches or vaginal estrogen, as these are most unlikely to overwork your liver. It is best to avoid oral estrogens in all cases of liver disease. If you have liver disease, you will need to consult your gastroenterologist about the type of liver disease you have. A blood test may be used to confirm the presence of a liver disease.
There are several other medical problems that make many doctors think twice before prescribing estrogen replacement therapy to their menopausal patients. They are not, however, absolute reasons that you cannot take this form of treatment; you can, but extra vigilance and care is called for. These are: recent and severe blood clots and thrombosis, severe high blood pressure that is difficult to control with antihypertensive medications, fibroids or endometriosis, gallbladder disease, benign breast disease and systemic lupus erythematosus. If you are suffering from menopausal symptoms but feel that estrogen replacement therapy is too dangerous for you, you may increase the amount of foods in your diet that are sources of natural estrogens.

Developing the mind for staying young: some exercise to remember better
Now that the technology provides us with the virtual memory of all kinds, that of the cell to the enormous amount of data that can be stored on personal computers and USB keys, to map out directions suggested by the GPS navigation, seems to have become useless to use our memory.
I know many people who are not able to even remember the number by telephone.
In reality, the human memory is to be developed and trained, even now that seems unnecessary, because it serves to strengthen the brain and keep young.
Memory is also about identity. We are what we remember: the places, people, the events and emotions experienced are our existence. To understand the importance of remembering, just think of those suffering from Alzheimer’s and any other disease that destroys memory. Also gradually lose their lives, memories and personal identity.
But how do you keep awake the brain and develop the ability to store data?
Here are some curiosity and some ploy to strengthen and expand your memory:
- How children are required to memorize the multiplication tables and tenses at school, so even adults can work with words and numbers to develop storage. Here is a simple exercise to do: write on a sheet a series of random numbers, starting with a series of five digits and gradually coming to nine. Repeat without looking at the number written to the rhythm of a number per second, until you can repeat without error all nine digits. Then move to a series of ten numbers, eleven numbers and so on, until you reach your personal limit of memory capacity. They repeat the same numbers, but this time in reverse. The exercise will then be repeated using words rather than numbers.
- Write four words on a sheet and devote to other activities for 5 minutes, after which the case if you remember the words written. Gradually increase the time interval to 10 minutes, then a quarter of an hour to arrive a half hour break. Gradually increase the list of words from 4 to 10. Another exercise is to watch a television program and then see how many scenes managed to replay in your mind.
- Do many games that stimulate your brain and logic, but not always on the same fixatives. As in the gym you never use the same tools so that you must train your memory with different instruments. Sudoku, crosswords, grids logical puzzles, anagrams, puzzles, memory enhancers are valid, just alternatives and not fixated on only one specific game.
- Be very physical activity, has recently been shown to stimulate the synapses in the brain. An hour of aerobic exercise per week can lead to produce new neurons in the hippocampus, the region of the brain responsible for memory.
- The leaves of Ginkgo biloba, a tree so old as to be one of the first living species, improve circulation and the influx of blood and thus also the memory. It might be worth trying, especially considering the fact that the flow of blood is a critical component for the optimal functioning of the brain and memory.
- Relieve aluminum: it has been associated with memory loss and premature senility.
- The nicotine helps the memory, far be it from me, pushing me to smoke, but soon will have a pill with the drug for people with Alzheimer’s, and beyond.
